The Australian Tax Practitioners Board
Your Rights and Obligations
Carmichael International Tax Pty Ltd is an Australian registered tax agent and we aim for the highest standards of tax excellence and service. As with all Australian registered tax agents, we are subject to strict oversight by the Tax Practitioners Board (“the TPB”).
You can search the Tax Practitioners Board’s register online at their weblink below at any time – any person or entity that provides you with Australian tax advice or Australian tax compliance (including preparation of Australian tax returns) must by law be registered with the Tax Practitioners Board. Always use a reputable, registered Australian tax agent for your Australian tax needs. A quick search of the TPB’s online Register below will confirm to you that we have no suspensions, no conditions, no sanctions and no disqualifications :
Our TPB Obligations : If you become a tax client of ours, we will be required always to act honestly and with integrity; to act lawfully in your best interests; to advise you of any conflict of interests; to take reasonable care to ascertain your state of affairs for tax purposes; to take reasonable care to apply Australia’s tax laws carefully and correctly; to provide our tax services competently; not to obstruct the administration of the tax laws; to advise you of your rights and obligations under the tax laws of Australia; not to make false or misleading statements to the Australian Taxation Office (“ATO”); and to keep a detailed written record for at least 5 years of all tax advice given to you (including verbal advice). All registered tax agents (including Carmichael International Tax) must also advise their clients and any prospective clients of any material matter that could significantly influence their decision to become, or to remain, a tax client of ours. These are all new and welcome additions to the Code of Professional Conduct that applies to all Australian registered tax agents to ensure high ethical and professional standards.
Your TPB Obligations : If you become a tax client of ours, you will also have obligations under law to the Australian Taxation Office and to us, as listed under the Tax Practitioners’ Board’s “Consumer’s Obligations” : to be truthful, open and honest with the information you provide to us and to the ATO; to keep your required supporting records (e.g. invoices for deductions or capital gains) and to provide them to us in a timely manner if we ask for them; to be co-operative with our requests in relation to your tax; and to meet your due dates for lodgement.
Your Right of Complaint to the TPB : If you are a client (or a former client) and you have any complaints about our service, our tax advice, our tax returns that we have prepared for you or our professional honesty and integrity etc, we hope you would let us know immediately so that we can discuss and resolve with you in a fair and equitable way. But you are also entitled in law to make a formal complaint on any such matters to the Tax Practitioners Board at any time (you do not need to tell us, although the TPB recommend you discuss any concerns with us first before lodging a formal complaint with them). This is your right under law, especially under the new 2025 Code of Professional Conduct for all registered tax agents. If you need, our Tax Agent Registration Number (“TAN”) is 24611540.
